Coleman Marine Insurance visit the 50th Boot Dusseldorf
It is not just southern England that struggles to cope when a light dusting of snow falls unexpectedly. It turns out the same is true in Dusseldorf, or so the local taxi drivers would have you believe as they tear around the city that hosts the world’s biggest boat show relying only on winter tyres (and luck) to avoid a snowy catastrophe.
Despite the warnings it wasn’t the freezing weather but the scale of the exhibition that will stick in the minds of the Coleman Marine Insurance team who attended the 50th Boot Dusseldorf.
Indeed, such is the size of the event that one UK dealer said he had racked up between 10 and 15 kilometres per day walking between his various stands. Hardly surprising given that the event is spread over 17 halls with 2,000 exhibitors offering something for water enthusiasts of every persuasion. Even torch enthusiasts were catered for, but for most, the real draw remains the vast array of boats and yachts on display.
With so many major global brands represented the Coleman Marine Insurance team enjoyed two packed days meeting up with friends and clients, old and new. The tenor of these conversations was overwhelmingly positive with many reporting solid order books and multiple new product launches for the months and years ahead. One model from a UK based builder is sold out until 2021, despite the factory producing more than 40 per year.
Just as a rising tide lifts all boats, so the support industry is also doing well. One builder of luxury tenders is almost sold out, another is well down the road of US expansion, boat stabilisation systems are all the rage and the yacht shipping companies are having no difficulty filling their transporters.
All-in-all a very productive few days for the Coleman Marine Insurance Team who are already looking forward to next year’s event when, hopefully, the weather will be a little warmer, the taxi drivers a little calmer and business still brisk.
